NetBrain Discovery and Inventory Appliance

The NetBrain Discovery and Inventory Appliance (DAP) is a Network Discovery and Network Inventory Maintenance solution. It is is designed for large enterprises and network outsourcing service providers, where accurate and comprehensive knowledge about networks is essential and cost of error prohibitive. Examples of Discovery Appliance use include:

  • Network outsourcers that have an automated mechanism to keep network inventory updated and that need to discover and document client networks during initial engagements
  • Large enterprises which have thousands of network devices under management that need to ensure every network device is properly managed while the network is under constant change

The NetBriain Discovery Appliance shares the same network discovery algorithm as NetBriain Workstation but with a more advanced discovery engine. In a large network, the Discovery Appliance can discover up to 4,000 network devices per hour and network re-discovery can run as fast as 10,000 devices per hour. The Discovery Appliance also offers customizable support for multi-vendor products.

Compared to other network discovery solutions in the market place, the NetBrain Discovery Appliance stands out in speed and more importantly depth. The DAP not only discovers layer 3 (L3) and layer 2 (L2) network topology, but also discovers network design such as routing, VLAN and multicasting.

The NetBrain Discovery Appliance can completely free large organizations from keeping manual inventory of their network, where adding, removing and modifying network devices is common. At last, NetBrain offers an automated network documentation solution which brings network discovery to a new level.

Feature Discovery Appliance Description
Network Discovery
Network discovery via configuration files After importing devices, NetBrain will use these devices as seed routers to discover the whole network
Network device auto-discovery Discover network devices from IP addresses or IP ranges. The built in 2nd generation network discovery engine has human-style intelligence, and excels in:
>Depth:Discover not only L2/L3 network topology, but also network design such as routing and VLAN
>High Speed: Discover up to 4000 network devices per hour
Discovery behind proxy or jump-box For networks that can be accessed directly, proxy devices or jump-boxes can be defined.
Multi-vendor support for discovery Built in support for multiple vendors and models allows users to dynamically add support for any vendors/models not currently in the supported list.
Periodical network re-discovery The network discovery task can be scheduled to allow re-discovery of network devices periodically.
Share discovery results across an enterprise Network discovered results, such as device configurations, can be exported to NetBrain Workstations across an enterprise so up-to-date network data is always available.
Customizable discovery script Written script is dynamically loaded and fully customizable to best retrieve data for different vendors or models.
Network Assessment
Detail inventory report From detail log and network discovery reports, the user can correct settings or change configurations.
